Equipment
ThriftFlowPOS runs in a web browser, so it works with standard retail hardware instead of a proprietary box. About 95% of what a thrift store already has on the counter carries straight over. Here are our two recommended counter kits, iPad and Windows, what works device by device, and three ways to put a system together.
Our recommended POS counter if you are starting fresh. Two touchscreens on one stand: the cashier rings on one iPad, and the customer faces the other to watch the total, answer the round-up ask, and join rewards with their phone number. Everything below works with ThriftFlowPOS out of the box, no drivers and no bridge box.

One box instead of two tablets, and the lowest-cost way to get two touchscreens. A Windows touchscreen terminal faces the cashier and a built-in 9.7-inch touchscreen faces the customer, so the round-up ask and the rewards phone pad work the same as on the iPad kit. The scanner plugs straight into a USB port, no hub needed.

Green means keep what you have. Purple means we supply it. Amber means keep it if you have one, or buy from the examples.
Any device with a modern browser: iPad, Android tablet, Windows PC, Chromebook. Touchscreens are nicer, not required.
Any scanner that types what it reads (the "keyboard" kind). That is nearly every scanner made in the last ten years. We recommend wired: no pairing, no batteries, no dropped scans at a busy counter.
Epson network printers take print jobs straight from the browser, which is why we recommend them. Other brands usually need a small bridge box.
The drawer plugs into the receipt printer and pops when the receipt prints. Any drawer with the standard printer cable works.
A cloud pin pad for tap, chip, and swipe, connected to the register so the cashier never keys an amount twice. It comes with your processing account, and cash discount or surcharge is built in.
The tagging station prints a barcoded price tag for every item. Any direct thermal label printer with a driver works; 2 by 1 inch labels are the standard.
Optional. Any second tablet or small screen facing the customer shows the running total and the donation round-up ask. No special hardware, it is a web page.
A tablet with a camera in the back room. Take a photo, say what the item is, print the tag. Voice tagging works best on an iPad in Safari.
Prices are rough street prices for the example gear, before anything you already own. The card terminal is not in these totals because we supply it.
One counter, cards and cash. The starting point for a small store or a second lane.
| Tablet and stand | $240 to $370 |
| Epson receipt printer | $250 |
| Cash drawer | $80 |
| Scanner | $60 to $110 |
| Card terminal | supplied |
Most stores already own three of these four and pay only for what is missing.
The front counter and the back room. Every item gets a barcoded tag, the register is scan-and-go, and weekly color markdowns run themselves.
| Everything in Register only | $550 |
| Tagging tablet (iPad) | $330 |
| Zebra tag printer | $250 |
| Labels, per roll | $20 |
| Customer display (optional) | $100 |
The setup most stores land on: scan-and-go at the counter, tagging in the back.
Two or more lanes, two tagging stations, a donation desk, and the truck.
| Two Register only kits | $1,100 |
| Two tagging tablets and printers | $1,160 |
| Donation intake tablet | $200 to $330 |
| DonorDispatch pickup scheduling | $50 / month bundled |
Multi-store owners get one dashboard across every location at no extra software cost.
$50 a month per store, unlimited registers and staff. DonorDispatch adds $50 a month when bundled. Processing rates usually beat what stores pay now, and with cash discount or surcharge, processing can drop to basically zero. Full pricing.
Send a photo of your counter. We will tell you what carries over and what, if anything, to buy.
