Switching
The four questions every store asks before it moves: what does it cost, how long is the changeover, what do we have to buy, and will our cashiers and volunteers recognize it. Answers below, with real numbers, and two things we send back before you decide: a processing quote and your own checkout screen in Familiar Mode.
What you save
ThriftFlowPOS is $50 a month per store, every feature included, no setup fee, no contract, and the PIN pads come free with our card processing. Put in what you pay today and see the difference. Sign up before December 31 and all of 2027 is free of software fees, whatever day you go live.
| Software, 12 months | $0 |
| Setup fee avoided | $0 |
| 2027 free if signed by Dec 31 | $0 |
| Card fees recovered with cash discount | $0 |
| PIN pads | free |
| Hardware you already own | keep it |
Estimate. Software and setup lines use your inputs. The cash-discount line assumes the fee is fully passed through on card sales; your actual recovery depends on how your customers pay. Line-by-line comparison with ThriftCart.
Depending on your current tier, the software line above may already be a big saving. For most stores, processing is bigger. Send us your full, most recent processing statement (every page of one month) and we send back three numbers for your store, next to what you pay today:
You pay the fees, and we match or beat your current rates. The clean comparison to your current statement.
A set percentage is added to card payments; cash pays the shelf price. The store's fees drop to near zero.
The shelf price includes the fee and cash customers get it taken off at checkout, automatically. Same result, friendlier sign.
PIN pads are free with any of the three, and the POS handles the math on every sale. A statement sent Monday through Thursday comes back the next business day; a Friday statement comes back Monday. Get my processing quote
How setup works
We host it, so there is nothing to install. Your old POS keeps running until the morning you decide to switch the drawer over, and the tags already on your floor scan at the new register on day one.
Tell us the store name on the start page. We set it up the same day with your name, logo and a login. Free, no card.
Five screens: store details, departments, quick prices, tax and tenders, your team with PINs and roles (cashier, manager, tagger). Defaults come from how thrift stores actually run, so most of it is confirming, not typing.
Six guided steps import products, customers, gift cards and open balances from your current system. Your existing barcodes come along, so nothing on the floor gets re-tagged. The old data stays in a read-only archive you can search forever.
Keep your tablets, scanners, printers and drawers. Free PIN pads arrive already paired to your store. Details in the next section.
Practice Mode is an eight-step walkthrough that rings fake sales and never touches your numbers. Familiar Mode makes the POS screen look like the one your cashiers and volunteers know. Most cashiers and volunteers are comfortable in one shift.
Pick the morning. Run both systems side by side for as long as you like; a lot of stores do a week. We are on a call for the first hour and reachable all day at (971) 715-2432.
That is what the Move-In Wizard is for. Customer lists, loyalty balances, store credit and gift cards import with their original numbers, so a card someone bought in 2019 still works at the new POS. If your old system only exports a spreadsheet, send it to us and we map it.
How the hardware sets up
ThriftFlowPOS runs in a browser, so any tablet or PC made in the last several years is a POS lane. Nothing to image, nothing to license per lane.
Open the store's address, sign in, tap Register. iPad, Android tablet, Chromebook or a Windows PC all work. A $240 tablet on a stand is a full checkout lane.
Any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner. Plug it in, scan a tag, it rings. No driver, no setup screen.
Epson network receipt printers pair in one screen by IP address and the cash drawer plugs into the printer. Done once per lane.
Shipped already paired to your store for our card processing. Set it on the counter, plug it in, the POS finds it. Card data never touches your tablets.
A Zebra label printer at the tagging station prints the barcoded color tag as each item is priced. Labels run about $20 a roll.
Any tablet with a camera. Point it at the item, confirm the department and price, print the tag. Suggested prices come from what has already sold.
Own nothing yet? A checkout lane is about $550 and a full POS-plus-tagging setup about $1,000, bought from anywhere you like. Full kits with prices on the equipment page. Not sure what you have? Send us a photo of the counter and we will tell you what works.
No retraining
The real cost of a new POS is the slow week: lines backing up, volunteers hunting for buttons, a manager stuck at the counter. Familiar Mode rebuilds the checkout screen to match the one your team uses today, same button order, same colors, same flow, with the better parts underneath. Each cashier or volunteer starts at the level you pick and moves toward the full layout on a schedule you set, or stays put. Practice Mode lets anyone ring fake sales on their own tablet first.
A screenshot or a phone photo of the screen with a sale rung up is enough. We build that layout and send back a picture of your store's ThriftFlowPOS screen looking the way your team knows it, usually the next business day (Monday for anything that lands on a Friday). No commitment, nothing to install. Send my screenshot
Honest limit: Familiar Mode matches the checkout screen and its flow. End of day, refunds and the manager screens are ours, and most managers prefer them inside a week.
Making it yours
Every store runs in its own database. Nothing about one store's setup leaks into another's, even inside the same organization. Here is what a store can shape without calling us.
Familiar Mode matches the POS screen to a screenshot of the POS your cashiers and volunteers use today: same button order, same colors, same flow. Each cashier or volunteer has a level from 0 to 5 that steps them toward the full layout at the pace you set, with coach cards along the way. Veterans can start at 5.
Your departments, your color tags, your markdown schedule, your quick keys for the bulk stuff (bricks, books by the bag, clothing by the pound). Change them any time from the Store Setup tile.
Cashier, manager and tagger roles with PIN gates where you want them: price overrides, refunds, drawer counts, the tagging station. Taggers can be back-room only.
Your logo and message on receipts and tags, your round-up ask on the customer display, your donation receipt wording, your gift-card and loyalty rules.
Consignment, layaway, buy counter, community service hours, agency vouchers, online listings: each one is a switch. A store that does not consign never sees a consignment button.
Every POS has a feedback button. Stores vote, the most-wanted features ship next, and the roadmap is public. If your POS cannot do one thing you need, tell us what it is.
